How it all began

Fred Waring was a popular musician, bandleader and radio-television personality. In the 1930s, inventor Frederick Jacob Osius went to Waring for financial backing for an electric blender he had patented. The patent was awarded on March 1, 1938. In 1937 Waring now owned what was know as the Miracle Mixer and introduced it to the public at the National Restaurant Show in Chicago. It sold for $29.75. In 1938, Fred Waring renamed his Miracle Mixer Corporation to the Waring Corporation. During World War II blender production halted between 1941 and 1945. After the war, demand grew and Waring sales took off again when they added innovations like color-coordinated blenders with solid-state controls, and attachments to crush ice and grind coffee beans. In 1950, Dr. Jonas Salk uses the blender with an aseptic dispersal container attachment to develop the polio vaccine. In 1954 Waring sold their 1,000,000th blender.
